    Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your Yala safari. Still unsure? Just message us on WhatsApp.

01When is the best time to visit Yala?
February to July (the dry season) is best for sightings, because animals gather at the few waterholes left. December to April is the busiest time. Blocks 1 and 2 close every year for the animals to rest; in 2026 the closure started on 14 September. Message us for the confirmed reopening date and other open zones.
02Will we definitely see a leopard?
No one can promise a leopard; they are wild animals. Block 1 has one of the highest leopard densities ever recorded (about 18 per 100 km²), and early mornings in the dry season give the best chances. Elephants, crocodiles, peacocks and many birds are seen on almost every drive.
03Where do you pick up guests?
We pick up from Tissamaharama, Kataragama, Kirinda, hotels around Yala and Hambantota Port. Tell us where you're staying and we'll arrange the time.
04What's the difference between private and shared safaris?
A private safari gives your group the whole jeep, so you decide where to stop and for how long. A shared safari means you share the jeep with other travellers, which keeps the cost lower.
    05What should I bring?
A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, light neutral-coloured clothing, a camera or binoculars, and a light jacket for early mornings. We provide drinking water.
    06Are park entrance tickets included?
We can arrange your national park entrance tickets with the booking. We'll confirm exactly what's included in your package when you message us.
07Is a safari suitable for children?
Yes — families are very welcome. A shorter 4-hour safari is often best for young kids. Let us know their ages when booking.
